X. Frank Yang, Patent Agent Frank received his Ph.D. in organic chemistry in 2004 from Tulane University, with his doctoral research being directed to development of novel synthetic methodologies and their application toward synthesis of natural products and pharmaceutical agents. He also received his M.S. in organic chemistry in 2000 from Tulane University. His master’s research was directed to synthesis of multi-substituted tetrahydropyrans and thiacyclohexanes, two core structures of a wide variety of natural products and pharmaceutical agents. One of Frank’s favorite subjects is "green chemistry", and more specifically, development of environmentally friendly chemical reactions and processes to minimize generation of chemical wastes including solvents, un-reacted reactants, and side products. Frank is a recipient of the prestigious "Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award" in 2001 awarded by the EPA because of his contribution in this field. After receiving his masters, Frank worked as a medicinal chemist for a global pharmaceutical company for two years before he decided to pursue his Ph.D. at Tulane. Upon receiving his Ph.D. in 2004, Frank worked as a research scientist for a multi-national chemical company for two years before he joined Miller, Matthias & Hull to pursue his career in patent law. Frank is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, and is currently attending the evening division of the Chicago-Kent College of Law, Illinois Institute of Technology, with his Juris Doctor degree being anticipated in the spring of 2011. |
