Our firm protection After gaining experience at general practice and IP firms in and around Chicago, founding partners Tom, Brent and Mike formed Miller, Matthias & Hull. All three were trained by some of the best patent attorneys in the United States and worked their way up to equity partner level in a nationally prominent Chicago patent firm. In 2005, they decided to leave the confines of that equity partnership and start Miller, Matthias & Hull. Rather than continuing in a larger firm supporting both a diverse litigation practice as well as a patent prosecution practice and being responsible for the overhead associated with large law firms, they decided to focus their firm on what they do best – drafting patent applications, prosecuting patent applications, and providing opinions and counseling to clients regarding patentability, right-to-practice (infringement), due diligence, and related issues. The result, we believe, is a more agile firm that is able to provide quality patent prosecution and opinion services at a more affordable price to our clients.
